Dolan Fund Joins the National #GivingTuesday Movement to Encourage Spending with a Purpose

Pledges to Increase Holiday Assistance to Families Caring for Seriously Ill Children

Philadelphia, PA, August 13, 2014 – The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund (KADMF) has joined #GivingTuesday, a first of its kind effort that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners – charities, families, businesses and individuals – to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

KADMF joined #GivingTuesday hoping to change how people think about their philanthropy. The Fund’s goal this year is to increase participation in their Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program, a program that matches generous sponsors with families caring for seriously ill, injured and disabled children. Because of the additional costs associated their child’s care, many families find their budgets stretched to the limit, and are unable to provide a nice holiday for their children. This program helps. The KADMF #GivingTuesday goal of increasing participation in the Holiday Program can only be accomplished with the help of the sponsors. Anyone can participate – businesses, organizations, families, individuals. People can sponsor a family, simply provide a gift card, or make a donation.

Peggy Dolan, executive director of KADMF, noted, “#GivingTuesday has already inspired over 1,400 organizations and people in the U.S. and the world! This is a wonderful initiative to bring attention to the giving season. For the Fund, #GivingTuesday lets us drive home the importance of charitable giving and the positive effect it has on their local community, especially the families in crisis that we serve. Last year we provided holiday assistance to 245 families. We hope we can serve even more families this year, and we feel the #GivingTuesday initiative will help us achieve that goal.”

Those interested in joining the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund’s #GivingTuesday initiative can visit www.dolanfund.org/givingtuesday/cfm. For more details about the #GivingTuesday movement, visit the #GivingTuesday website (www.givingtuesday.org).

About #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate and provide incentives to give. It will culminate with a global day of giving on December 2, 2014. This effort harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. #GivingTuesday will inspire people to take collaborative action to improve their local communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they celebrate and help create a better world. #GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a global moment that is dedicated to giving around the world.

KADMF Receives “Fresh Air” Grant to Help Children with Severe Pulmonary Disorders

Ambler, Pennsylvania, June 28, 2013 - The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund (KADMF) has received a $1750 grant from the Women’s Club of Suburban Philadelphia to support the fund’s “Fresh Air” Program. The program provides new air conditioners for children with severe pulmonary, kidney, heart or liver disorders who are especially at risk in hot and humid weather.

KADMF’s Executive Director Peggy Dolan said, “When children at risk are subjected to the intense heat and humidity, the loss of good air quality can often lead to a crisis. The crisis could mean a trip to the ER, followed by a stay in the intensive care unit and thousands of dollars of medical costs, when a simple $150 window air conditioner would have averted the issue altogether. Not only that, missed work often reduces the parent’s income when they leave their jobs to be with the hospitalized child.”

She added, “The Women’s Club of Suburban Philadelphia has been a treasured partner of the Fund. For the past 11 years, they have helped fund the “Fresh Air” Program. It is these wonderful partnerships that enable us to help families caring for children with serious illnesses, disabilities and injuries.”

Because of the children’s precarious health, KADMF provides funds for the families to purchase new air conditioners. If you would like to donate to the “Fresh Air” Program, please visit www.dolanfund.org or call 215-643-0763.

Over 40 prize baskets have been donated by local businesses and family members and offer everything from an iPad® to Phillies paraphernalia. Visiting students and friends can enjoy music, dancing, singing and refreshments (all donated) in the school cafeteria. Everyone is welcome.

The partnership between Tamanend and the Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund is strengthened each year as Peggy Dolan addresses the school’s general assembly about the importance of paying it forward and paying it back. Her inspirational story is the key motivator for the students to get involved. Tamanend Middle School is part of the Central Bucks School System.

Ambler-based Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund Seeks Sponsors for Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program

Ambler, Pennsylvania, October 27, 2010   The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund is once again sponsoring the Holiday Adopt-A-Family program for the holidays and actively seeking donors willing to purchase gifts for families in need. The program matches families of seriously ill or disabled children with sponsors to ensure that families in crisis can share in the spirit of the holiday season.

With unemployment rates at a 26-year high, more families than ever are in need of outside help. Peggy Dolan, Executive Director of the Fund, said they expect to receive more than 125 requests for holiday assistance from social workers and other referring professionals in the Delaware Valley. Sponsors, which include church groups, businesses, individual families, scout troops and school groups, receive wish lists as well as information on a family’s situation. This process introduces sponsors to the difficulties and hardships their adopted family faces every day.

To sponsor a family for the Adopt-A-Family program or to donate to the fund, call 215-643-0763 or visit www.dolanfund.org.
