Community BUZZ – April issue

MISSION MOMENT:

His family has nicknamed him “Charming,” as in “Prince Charming,” and his life definitely has some fairy tale elements.

Once upon a time, in a faraway kingdom of Montgomery County, there was a 5-year-old boy named Prince. Prince’s life was a mix of joy and struggle. He loved Bluey, jumping on the trampoline, playing with his cousins, and singing praise songs at his Church. But he was also born with epilepsy and congenital cardiovascular abnormalities, which made his life far from idyllic. Since birth, Prince had been fostered by his Aunt Shaday, who loved him deeply and hoped to adopt him.

For the adoption to be complete, Prince’s aunt needed to show that she could provide a home that met all of the requirements for Prince’s complex medical needs. The adoption process was long and expensive, but Shaday was determined, even if that meant she had to take a break from her nursing classes. Further, Shaday already missed many work days to take Prince to his doctor’s appointments. One day, Shaday found the perfect house. It had room for her mother, who could help with Prince’s care, and her teenage daughters, who loves Prince like a brother and met all the requirements for Prince. It was in a top-rated school district providing the quality education she was determined to secure for her children.  There was just one problem. Shaday was just $500 short of the security deposit on her dream apartment. A social worker supporting Prince at his special needs preschool told Shaday that she would apply for funding from KADMF on Shaday’s behalf. Thanks to the KADMF’s support, Shaday could secure the remaining funds and move into her dream apartment.

Thanks to our donor’s generosity, Shaday received the deposit. The family moved into that apartment, Shaday got to return to nursing school, and Prince got his forever family. Isn’t that the best happily ever after?

SWING FOR FAMILIES:

On Monday, May 20th, the Dolan Fund will proudly hold our 3rd Annual Swing Fore Families at North Hills Country Club in Glenside. North Hills, founded over 100 years ago, is a beautiful course on the Philadelphia-Montgomery County border. We are excited to move our tournament to this historic course, which has a reputation for tournament excellence.

Despite a location change, we will be retaining some of the favorite aspects of our past tournaments. Many of you have reached out to confirm that our friends at Leader Board New England will be returning with the air cannon. Have no fear—we have secured the cannon, so in addition to wowing the members of your foursome with a great tee shot, you can plan some fun with the cannon. We will also have some other favorite contests, including putting, hole-in-ones, ball drop, and a $20,000 shot. For the first time, each foursome can buy a set of sandies and mulligans.

Thanks to the generosity of our Board of Directors and other donors, we have some exciting raffle and auction prizes. For the raffle, there will be two sets of Phillies tickets, concert tickets, several foursomes with greens fees at area clubs, and other golf packages. A fabulous North Carolina vacation home will also be up for auction.

Check-in begins at 11 a.m., with a scramble starting at noon. If you’re not a golfer, join us at 5 p.m. for cocktails and light fare to welcome the golfers back. We will celebrate our winning foursome and present awards.

Finally, there are still sponsorship opportunities available for your business. Sponsorship presents a unique opportunity to rally support for your business through networking with like-minded business owners and individuals in the community. With your sponsorship, The Kelly Anne Dolan Memorial Fund will partner with your company to celebrate and recognize your efforts through marketing and communications efforts, social media, and signage at the event. Your sponsorship allows us to support our families during a critical time by providing relief and support.
